ABSTRACT

A positive integer is called a congruent number if it is the area of a right triangle with rational sides. For example, 5, 6, 7 are congruent numbers, but none of 1, 2, 3 is a congruent number. The congruent number problem is to determine whether a given integer is congruent. The problem is closely related to Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture.  We will introduce some recent progress to the problem.
