ABSTRACT

The release of sterile mosquitoes is one of the effective biological control measures in preventing mosquito-borne diseases. To investigate the impact of such releases, we present a delay differential equation model for the interactive wild and sterile mosquitoes. We consider the cases where the releasing rate of sterile mosquitoes is constant or a presumed function. We establish a threshold of the releases to determine whether the wild mosquito suppression succeeds or fails, and study the existence and stability of equilibria for the model with a constant release rate. We also consider case in which the releases are periodic and impulsive. Numerical examples and brief discussions are provided. This is based on a joint work with Professor Jianshe Yu of Guangzhou University.
