This talk is an introduction to quantum computing from a computer science perspective, with the hope to stimulate interests about this exciting field among students and researchers in other fields. Quantum computing is an interdisciplinary study where ideas from computer science and quantum physics meet and collide. But do you know when and under what situations did all this happen and the two fields start to communicate with each other? What is the magic ingredient of quantum computing that is missing from its classical counterpart? What does the landscape of quantum computer science look like now and what are the important missing parts? Will you be able to understand and contribute to quantum computer science yourself? We will try to address and find answers to all these questions in the talk. We will also briefly introduce our research directions and research teams at the Centre for Quantum Software and Information, the University of Technology of Sydney (UTS:QSI) and seek potential collaborations.
