ABSTRACT
For generations, Mathematics have been developed to quantify, measure, and explain the world around us. Mathematics and Language are probably among the attributes that distinguish human beings from other species. Our modern society would simply not be possible without the contribution of Mathematics. During their evolution, Mathematics became involved in almost every aspect of our daily lives. Their uses are innumerable and more and more relevant and frequent. This is especially true for the modern theory of mathematical control. In this talk, which will avoid technical details, we will focus on presenting some fundamental aspects of the mathematical theory of control, as well as their algorithmic implementation.
The relevance of the approach will be illustrated by some applications to the control of fluids and structures.
If time allows we will the present in more detail some mathematical techniques, starting from the classical problem of controlling linear finite-dimensional dynamics, to then consider some basic models of Continuum Mechanics such as the wave and the heat equation.
