From Gaussian elimination to affine Deligne-Lusztig and affine Lusztig varieties

报告摘要:Gaussian elimination, introduced by Gauss in 1809, is a method for solving systems of linear equations. This method was later extended to more complex structures called reductive groups, resulting in the Bruhat decomposition. Another key concept in linear algebra is the eigenvalue, which applies to conjugacy classes of matrices and was also extended to reductive groups. Deligne-Lusztig varieties and Lusztig varieties study the interaction between Bruhat decomposition and various types of conjugacy classes in reductive groups. They play a crucial role in geometric representation theory. In this talk, we will explore the affine analog of Deligne-Lusztig and Lusztig varieties. These are significant in arithmetic geometry and representation theory. The talk is based on my paper arXiv:2302.03203 and an upcoming preprint.

专家简介:何旭华现为香港大学讲座教授及新基石研究员。何教授于2001年在北京大学获得理学学士学位,于2005年在美国麻省理工学院获得博士学位。何教授曾在美国石溪大学、香港科技大学及美国马里兰大学任教,并于2016-2017年在普林斯顿高等研究院担任Von Neumann Fellow。由于在算术代数几何、代数群及表示论等领域取得的杰出成就,他先后获得2013年晨兴数学金奖、2020年科学探索奖、2022年美国数学会的Chevalley奖,并获邀在2018年国际数学家大会上做45分钟报告,他也是香港数学会理事长。
