报告摘要:In groundbreaking work, Brown, Douglas and Fillmore (BDF) classified all essentially normal operators using

Fredholm indices. In the process, they classified all essential extensions of C*-algebras with the form of $0\rightarrow K \rightarrow E \rightarrow C(X) \rightarrow 0$ where K is the C*-algebra of compact operators on a separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space, and X is a compact subset of the plane. We discuss some recent generalizations of this to more general classes of C*-algebra.Among other things, we classify all essential extensions of continuous scale C*-algebras by separable nuclear C*-algebras. This is joint work with J. Gabe and H. Lin.
